ENG 1 – 0 UKR

Hands up if you were convinced with that performance……… I myself was not! but I’m a hard man to please lets give credit where credit is due though you can only beat who is in front of you and that they did. To be honest I was quite surprised that Wayne Rooney started but he showed why, all be it a performance that lacked match sharpness. For this particular match manager Roy Hodgson got the rest of the starting line up right in my opinion. A well balanced mobile team with a good mixture of youth and experience, However! given the amount of chances created by the Ukraine team and England’s defensive frailties had this been stronger opposition the outcome would have been much different. The call for goal line technology will probably surface again but before it does can I just say that Ukrainian forward Milevskiy during the build up was offside! And as for these glorified mannequins dressed up as referees do something or GO AWAY! and just exactly what is that wand they swing around? ( sort it out! ).

Back to England for me to win a major tournament you need 3 things 1. A solid Goal Keeper. 2. A team that can score goals and 3. Ball retention. Unfortunately England lack the latter and with potentially 2 games to go it all depends on who England will play. Italy are quite clearly leagues apart from the Ukraine team in terms of technical ability but as ridged as they set themselves out they also have defensive issues of their own. So England’s next match is sure to have goals question is will England be able to keep the ball against better quality players?
