Terri Walker made her mark in 2000 featuring on Shanks & Bigfoot’s track “Sing-A-Long” since then Mz Walker has evolved from a good feature artist to a greatly respected artist! Something which not all UK artists enjoy when venturing on foreign shores. Magevizo had the opportunity to fire some questions at Terri Walker check out the interview below!

Magevizo

You have had four solo albums out (Untitled) , (LOVE) , (I Am) and Walk With Me as well as the collaboration album you recently done with Nicole Wray (Lady) which project did you enjoy working on the most?

Terri Walker

I loved working on all of them. Each represent a different time in my life but if I had to choose it would have to be “Untitled” as I was still green and naive then.It was all about just being excited to be able to record a record.

Magevizo

Something that is prominent within your music is the combination of Neo Soul and dance music which is your preference?

Terri Walker

I love music,For me as long as the message comes across I don’t really care how it is conveyed.I could sing over a rock soundtrack if need be Lol.

Magevizo

You have recently released an album with Nicole Wray (Lady) an artist who has worked with a lot of major artist in the States how did that come about?

Terri Walker

Nicole and I met in New York whilst both working on our solo projects with Ski Beatz.We just clicked as women of the bat, I am actually her biggest fan. Her vocals and writing are incredible.

There has been a few UK singers who have managed to cross the water successfully i.e. Marsha Ambrose , Adele , the late Amy Winehouse , Jessie J and yourself, how hard is it to establish yourself as a credible singer in the international market?

Terri Walker

As long as you stay true to you ,you can cross over anywhere I believe.

Terri in wonderland was a mix tape you released in 2011 what was the motivation behind it?

Terri Walker

I wanted to showcase my interests and writing skills at the time.I was experimenting a lot around that time.

Magevizo

Which do you prefer being on a major or independent label and why?

Terri Walker

I love being independent .There are no rules to music in my eyes or ears, Music for me is a form of expression and when it is restricted it can feel like your imprisoned.

What is your view on the UK scene at the moment?

Terri Walker

I’m loving the diversity at the moment in the UK .You don’t have to only listen to one station to hear what’s going on. Blogs and Internet radio can give you varieties to tailor your tastes.

The walk with me project was heavily hip hop orientated which goes to show you are not scared to transcend genres do you feel that is important not to be pigeon holed?

Terri Walker

I think it is very important to me not to be pigeon holed.I grew up in such a varied way that it has to be showcased. Born in England, growing up in Germany but spending most of my time in the states has moulded me into a colourful personality I think.Lol!

You have done quite a bit of work with Doneao who is known for dance music how has that been and how did it come about?

Terri Walker

I love working with Donaeo, He is one of the most honest and talented people I know.It happened cos it was meant to happen.

What advice would you give to any one trying to brake into the music scene?

Terri Walker

My advice for anyone coming into this business is surround yourself with people that understand your vision and keep pushing.They’ll catch up one day

A lot of artists who have tasted success and let it change them not necessarily for the better but you always stay grounded and humble as well as keeping your quality of music to a high standard has it been hard to maintain a humble attitude?

Its not hard staying true to you if that’s what you really are. So no its been easy for me.

What can we expect from Terri Walker in the future?

Terri Walker

New Album coming at the end of the year and a EP to keep you fed until then.
